Located on South Carolina’s Atlantic coast, Myrtle Beach is the hub of the 60-mile Grand Strand. Famous for celebrity-designed golf courses, the beachfront boardwalk offers souvenir shops, restaurants, and arcades.

For those who love rides, there’s an old-fashioned Family Kingdom amusement park and one of the country’s largest Ferris wheels, the SkyWheel. Whether you’re looking for a day at the beach or a night at the boardwalk, Myrtle Beach has something for everyone.

The region was originally called Withers. The first post office was established here in 1888, but the budding community wanted to give it a new name. Local resident Addie Burroughs came up with the name Myrtle Beach, based on the wax myrtle bushes that dotted the region. The name eventually replaced Withers, but the area was not officially incorporated until 1938. It was only until 1957 that Myrtle Beach was incorporated into a city.

Another great way to spend a day on the beach is to take in a show. Broadway at the Beach is a fantastic venue for entertainment, including Broadway shows, live music, and Broadway-style dining. The Butterfly Pavilion is definitely worth the admission price

And of course, there’s the beachfront Boardwalk and Promenade. Located along the oceanfront, the boardwalk & promenade is 1.2 miles long and features three sections: the North Walkway, 14th Avenue North Pier, and Plyler Park.

The 60-mile stretch of white sand provides a beautiful setting for a day on the beach. There are some businesses that are closed because of global health issues, but many are open.

The beach is the perfect place to fly kites, watch the waves, and gather shells. There are plenty of other things to do on the beach, from eating ice cream to taking in a movie. Just be sure to pack sunscreen!

If you are traveling by car, Myrtle Beach offers convenient car rentals. The local Coast RTA offers bus service to the area seven days a week.

There are also shuttle buses, a Greyhound bus line, and even an electric tram that runs along the coast. When visiting Myrtle Beach, be sure to check out the sunset and sunrise, as it is often the prettiest time of day.

In the morning and evening, however, the beaches are open to the public, so take your time and enjoy the views.
